Seniors who have not met their college readiness scores for CSU English College Readiness and Math College Readiness requirements will have to the English Placement Test - EPT and/or the Entry Level Math Placement Test - ELM by you CSU campuses deadlines. You need to check your portal, or online account, with your college and emails from your college to see if you you need to take either test and what their deadline is to take the tests. Contact the college admission office if you are unable to find access to your portal or account.Use the links above and/or the follow guide to see the SAT/ACT/AP/CAASPP Scores that you need to be College Ready.

If you meet the Conditional Ready status by your scores and are in the approved English and Math course all year (has to be both semesters and C and above both semesters - C-'s do not count), then  you will be college ready. YET WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO STILL TAKE THE EPT AND/OR ELM IF YOU ARE CONDITIONALLY READY TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET A PASSING SCORE ON ELM/EPT TO REGISTER EARLIER FOR YOUR SUMMER ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION DATES.

 

Please remember you have to have sent your SAT/ACT/AP scores directly to colleges by their deadlines in your portal with the campus or via their email communication to you. Some deadlines have already passed, others are typically early February. You send SAT and AP through collegeboard.org account and ACT scores through your actstudent.org account.

 

If you have to take the EPT and/or the ELM, then make sure you know their deadline and register ASAP at - https://ept-elm.ets.org/CSU/

Seniors and parents,

 

Seniors who have applied to universities. Make sure you have set up your portals for each campus, checked if they have received test scores from collegboard.org &/or actstudent.org - if not make sure you have sent them, and checked to see if they want you to send transcripts - if so send them through parchment.

 

Portals or myXcollege accounts vary by college - some are different process like UCSD and you have to search for it or follow different process - http://admissions.ucsd.edu/freshmen/timeline.html

some are clear cut right on the college website like CSU San Marcos - below the main picture on right - myCSUSM -  http://www.csusm.edu/

They are inform you what is required and what has been received. If you have any issues logging in, identifying you ID numbers, etc - use their help links or contact their admissions office to help insure you have access to your portal/account and have all the info you need. 

 

Sending test scores. They have to be sent directly from collegeboard - https://www.collegeboard.org/ - for SAT and AP scores via your account. If you have trouble remembering username password or created multiple accounts use the help links on their site or call them directly. ACT scores have to be sent via your -  http://www.actstudent.org/ - account and contact them if you have any issues getting into your account. See Mrs. King in regards to sending your IB test scores. 

 

Sending Transcripts. Even thought most colleges say see your counselor to send transcripts. Student and parents have to do that through parchment - electronic online process or through requesting hard copy to be mailed. We strongly, strongly encourage you to use parchment if your school uses it - vast majority do - it is easiest, fastest, and legal proof of your sending the transcript. If anyone is one free/reduced lunch or foster youth, then please see your counselor and your fees for the transcripts will be waived. See theTranscript Information page under Quick Links on the left of GOHS High School. Students who have used online common application or sendedu do not have to worry about sending 1st semester or mid-year transcripts - we do that through our side. YET ALL STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SENDING THEIR FINAL TRANSCRIPTS SINCE WE WILL NOT BE IN THE OFFICE WHEN GRADES OFFICIALLY POST AROUND JUNE 15TH!

Use the Planner to coordinate your courses over the junior and senior year to see how we can tailor the IB program to fit your needs.

 

The IB Coordinator will be visiting all 10th grade English classrooms, including AP Language, over the next three weeks.  Attached are the materials offered in class to help aide students.

We have put together an at-a-glance calendar of opportunities for college-bound students. As things are added, we will update it and then update the website if needed.  Hopefully this will make it easier to organize these opportunities.

Remember:

99% of school take ACT or SAT scores equally

Spring of junior year is prime time for those exams

Students who haven't taken the bulk of Algebra 2 might get frustrated by taking practice exams for the ACT or the SAT

Consult your counselor if you have any concerns or questions.

For many years Great Oak students have traveled to San Diego or Orange County in order to take SAT prep courses.  Because of this, GOHS will be hosting an SAT Prep Class here AT GREAT OAK. 

 

If we fill the class, the Catalyst company is willing to offer the class for 699 dollars rather than the standard 899 per student.  A flyer is attached with specific dates and time, and general info is below:

The final FAFSA Workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 17th at 6 pm in GOHS Library Computer Lab. There will be a member of MSJC Financial Aid Department here to help parents and students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online application to see if students can qualify for grants, work study, priority loans, and/or scholarships. All students and their parents have to do to apply for Cal Grants - grants and financial aid for California students attending California universities and community – is to complete the FAFSA by the March 2nd deadline. TVUSD has already done the GPA Certification for all TVUSD seniors – parents and students do not have to worry about that.

 

We encouraging all seniors, and their parents/guardians, who are pursuing any education after high school – university, community college, vocational/technical schools – to complete the FAFSA by the March 2nd CalGrant deadline.

 

Please make sure you complete the 2016/2017 FAFSA, and not the 2015/2016!

 

Students and parents often complete the online FAFSA on their own and we have links on our Counseling Financial Aid Page that help on the process and steps. Students, or parents, may contact any of their future college financial aid offices for help on questions that they have.

 

Parents and students may complete their online application during the workshops here on our computers, or chrome books, or they can complete the FAFSA 2016/2017 Worksheet to then go home and input their information into the online application. Workshops will be led by college Financial Aid Representatives and will answer parents and students questions as they go through the application. Parents and students may also contact these representatives at a later time if they have other questions. You can also get questions answer through contact Federal student aid at - https://studentaidhelp.ed.gov/app/home/site/fafsa

 

If parents attend the workshop without their student, then please ask your student to give you their student ID number (which is their user name/number) and their password to be able to log onto the computers or chrome books here at GOHS.

 

*GOHS will be holding 4 drawings for 1 set of 2 graduation ceremony tickets on the football field for each drawing out of those GOHS students, and their parents, that have submitted their FAFSA by each drawing date. Students, and their parents, may only win maximum of one drawing.

Emily Yoon, a Great Oak Senior, has been selected to participate in the American Choral Directors Association's All-State Choir! Emily, a member of Mr. Park's Concert Choir, is one of only 300 students selected for this honor and will be performing with this elite group in San Jose in February 2016. Congratulations Emily!!

Sometimes you are having a hard time with something and it helps to have a friend explain it, right!?  That is why we have started a PEER TUTORING program in the GOHS library. 

Tutors will be available Mondays from 7:30 - 8:30 in the morning,

and Tuesday through Thursday after school from 2:30 to 3:30. 

When you come to the library, check in with our Peer Tutor Coordinator in order to get connected to a tutor.  We will also log you in, so if your teacher or parent wants you to get more help, we have a record of it.

If you want to be a tutor, please tell Mrs. King so she can add you to the tutor list, or show up at the library and tell the Peer Tutor Coordinators or the librarians that you would like to help.

Tutors are available for math, science, Spanish and history, but if you have a special need, please tell the Coordinator who will have you fill out a sheet so that we can find you some help!

Remember:  The strength of the Wolf is the Pack; let's help each other!
